An excellent, extended safari which gives us plenty of time in beautiful Serengeti National Park, and also introduces us to the magic of Tanzania’s other natural Northern Circuit attractions. We will begin our adventure on this five-day adventure in Lake Manyara, small but certainly not lacking in interesting sights, sounds and smells and set against a dramatic backdrop of the Rift Valley escarpment, not forgetting the glistening lake itself. In Serengeti, we will have a full program of game-drives, letting us explore the stunning and varied landscapes of this famous place. All the time, we’ll be looking for the best wildlife experiences, before we depart for another Tanzanian gem, the incomparable crater of Ngorongoro, on the lookout for a black rhino. Then, we finish our adventure in Tarangire National Park, another of the Northern Circuit’s true jewels and famous for its large herd of elephants and iconic baobab trees.

The Marangu Route also known as the “Coca-Cola Route” is the oldest and most well established trekking route on Mount Kilimanjaro, and it remains extremely popular mainly because it is the only route on the mountain that has hut accommodation for trekkers.

Umbwe route: The umbwe route is a short, steep and direct route. It is considered to be very difficult and is the most challenging way up Mount Kilimanjaro. Due to the quick ascent, Umbwe does not provide the necessary stages for altitude acclimatization. Although the traffic on this route is very low, the chances of success are also low. The route is offered at a minimum of six days, though seven days is recommended when attempting this route. The Umbwe route should only be attempted by those who are very strong hikers and are confident in their ability to acclimatize.

On this 2-day lodge safari you will visit the world famous Ngorongoro Crater as well as the Tarangire National Park or Lake Manyara National Park depending on which will be selling better viewing of animals at that particular time. Enjoy the beautiful scenery as you immerse in Africa’s breath-taking nature and wildlife.

Known as the “Coca-Cola” route, the Marangu route is a classic trek on Mount Kilimanjaro. It is the oldest, most well-established route. Many favor the Marangu route because it is considered to be the easiest path on the mountain, given its gradual slope. It is also the only route that offers sleeping huts in dormitory-style accommodations. The minimum days required for this route is five, although the probability of successfully reaching the top in that time period is quite low. Spending an extra acclimatization day on the mountain is highly recommended when climbing Kilimanjaro using the Marangu route. However, despite its immense popularity, we avoid leading climbs on the Marangu route. The route has the least scenic variety of all the routes because the ascent and descent are done on the same path and it is the most crowded route for that reason. Marangu is favored only during the rainy season, where the hut accommodations are preferred.

Until the Northern Circuit opened recently, the Lemosho Route was widely considered to be the overall best route to climb Kilimanjaro. It combines all the best feature of the Machame route in terms of success rate but, by starting further round to the West, it takes you up and over the spectacular Shira Plateau, while at the same time avoids the crowds on the early part of the Machame route. Over 8 days, you have a fantastic journey and a great chance of summiting successfully. The Lemosho route is considered one of the most scenic trail on the Kilimanjaro, granting panoramic vistas on almost all sides of the mountain. Being one of the newer routes, Lemosho is definitely an excellent choice for your climb.

The Rongai Route is one of the easiest routes and the success rate is very high. The route starts on the north side of the mountain just south of the Kenyan border, and is one of the least traveled routes. The descent is down the Marangu Route on the south side of the mountain, so climbers see the mountain from many view points. The drive to the trail head takes about 3 hours from Moshi through many villages and coffee plantations, including a stop to register climbing permits at Marangu. The Rongai Route can also be accessed from Amboseli National Park in Kenya. Allow 2 hours including border crossing. We will need copies of passports ahead of time.

Arusha – Ngorongoro We will descend over 600 meters into the crater to view wildlife for an afternoon safari tour. 02 Ngorongoro – Serengeti (Lobo area) The wildebeest migration, normally pass through the Lobo area every year around July / August en-route and again in late October / November en-route to the southern Serengeti National Park. 03 Serengeti (Lobo Area) The area around Lobo and the Grumeti River has good resident game throughout the year 04 Serengeti – Northern Serengeti The wildebeest migration can normally be found in the Wagakuria area from August to October 05 Western Serengeti It is also possible to find large pods of hippo’s and huge crocodiles in the Grumeti River. The wildebeest normally gather around waterholes midmorning in such densities, that they look like ants swarming around a nest 06 Northern Serengeti (Wagakuria area) – Arusha After breakfast at the lodge, we depart to the Kogatende airstrip and enjoy a game drive en-route to the airstrip to Arusha

The region comprises of acacia woodland and open plains that support a remarkable variety of wildlife and spectacular views of Mt. Kilimanjaro. The most common animals in the area include wildebeest, zebra, gazelles, impalas, giraffes and baboons. Depending on the time of year, elephants are a very common sight given the region lies along an elephant corridor linking Kenya’s Amboseli’s National Park & Mt. Kilimanjaro. This region is home to the nomadic Maasai herdsmen who co-exist with the surrounding wildlife hence the term Maasai Land. This safari is an awesome display of natural wonders with over two million wildebeests, zebras, and antelope traveling over 450 miles across the plain to ensure their survival, unaware that there's danger presented by the stalking lions and cheetahs among other predators of migrating wildlife. The huge crocodiles of the Mara River also lie in wait as the herbivorous prepare to cross the swollen Mara river and enter into Masai Mara Game Reserve from Serengeti National Park.

Rongai is the only route starting on the northern slope of Kilimanjaro. Though this part of the Mountain is rarely visited by hikers, it is not less interesting than the popular southern and western slopes. We recommend Rongai to all those who like reclusive hiking experiences. Rongai is also the only route that passes by Mawenzi, one of the three volcanic cones of Kilimanjaro and the third highest peak in Africa. The way back lies through Marangu, and thus you will be able to see both sides of the mountain.

Lemosho Route is regarded as one of the prettiest route on Kilimanjaro. We begin trekking in the thick, fertile rainforest until we reach the wildflowers and shrubs of the heath ecosystem. Approaching from the west, we cross one of most beautiful areas on Kilimanjaro, the vast Shira Plateau, before traversing the mountain along the southern circuit. The Lemosho route is for those with previous backpacking experience
