The eight day Lemosho route variation is the ideal schedule for this route. On the 8 day Lemosho route, the trek from Barranco to Barafu is broken up into two days, allowing for a short day just prior to the summit attempt. This is important because summit day begins very early, around midnight, so climbers are sleep deprived going into the toughest day on the mountain. By having a short day beforehand, climbers can be better rested. The eight day Lemosho route is highly recommended and used by most prominent Kilimanjaro operators.

Lemosho Route This Kilimanjaro Lemosho route 9 days itinerary is a very special itinerary designed for those wishing to make the ascent to the summit in the daylight hours as well as with sun rise. It takes us through magnificent scenery with views of the Great Rift Valley, Mt Meru and with a camping option at the crater. The Lemosho route can be done in as little as six days (five nights) on the mountain. However, it is ideally tackled over eight days (seven nights) for a better altitude acclimatization schedule. The trek begins at Londorossi Gate, located in the western base of mountain, within its lush, fertile rainforest. The route heads across the Shira Plateau, before circling along the southern circuit halfway around the mountain, exposing the climber to great views from all angles. The approach to the summit is made from the east, and the descent follows the Mweka trail. The route is more scenic.

Until the Northern Circuit opened recently, the Lemosho Route was widely considered to be the overall best route to climb Kilimanjaro. It combines all the best feature of the Machame route in terms of success rate but, by starting further round to the West, it takes you up and over the spectacular Shira Plateau, while at the same time avoids the crowds on the early part of the Machame route. Over 8 days, you have a fantastic journey and a great chance of summiting successfully. The Lemosho route is considered one of the most scenic trail on the Kilimanjaro, granting panoramic vistas on almost all sides of the mountain. Being one of the newer routes, Lemosho is definitely an excellent choice for your climb.

RONGAI ROUTE 7 DAY begins at the remote, northern side of Kilimanjaro, near the Kenyan border. We hike through a true wilderness area towards the jagged Mawenzi Peak, then cross a barren desert saddle, before climbing up Kibo’s eastern crater wall. The Rongai route is a more gradual ascent, and is therefore preferred by those with little or no backpacking experience, but is equally enjoyable for even the most hardened trekkers. As mentioned above, an additional acclimatization day on Day 5 is added. During this day, we will do additional acclimatization hikes around and up to the saddle towards Camel’s Back.

Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro via The Rongai Route Less crowded because of its remote location the route offers trekkers a unique wilderness experience where it is possible to see large wildlife like antelope, elephant and buffalo. As there is typically less moisture on this side of the mountain you are less likely to encounter rain and have more unclouded views of the peak. While it is flatter, it does not give the climb high sleep low option and therefore recommended to select more days for acclimatization. The Rongai route is one of the easier routes up Kilimanjaro. Known as the “Whiskey” route, the Machame route is now the most popular route on the mountain. Compared with Marangu, the days on Machame are longer and the walks are steeper. The Machame route is considered a difficult route, and is better suited for more adventurous folks and those with some hiking or backpacking experience. The route begins from the south, then heads east, traversing underneath Kilimanjaro’s southern ice field before summiting. The minimum number of days required for this route is six days, although seven days is recommended. The Machame route is scenically beautiful and varied. However, due to the heavy crowds, it loses some of its spendor

The sunsets from Shira Camp are amazing, the stargazing from Barranco Camp breath-taking, and the views from Karanga Camp on a clear day are out of this world. This route a bit more challenging due to steeper ascents and descents, but it is precisely this challenge that attracts trekkers. Many adventurers relish the sense of achievement that comes with conquering a more demanding route.

Experience Tanzania Safari 3-Day Tanzania Lodge Safari On this 3-day Tanzania lodge safari you will explore the Tarangire National Park with its huge elephant herds, the diverse landscapes of Lake Manyara National Park and the Ngorongoro Crater, a collapsed volcano filled with wild animals. This a package is perfect for those do not have enough time to go to Serengeti.

The Lemosho route is considered one of the easier routes on Kilimanjaro, as its longer itinerary allows for better acclimatization. However, hikers will still need to ascend the Barranco Wall and climb steeply on summit night. The 8-day Lemosho climb gives one of the highest success rates, rather than trying to squeeze the climb into 7 days. The extra day allows for a shorter pre-summit day, meaning that you arrive at base camp by lunchtime, fuel up with food, and tuck up in your tent to rest for what will be a tough summit ascent starting at midnight. Experienced and already acclimatised mountaineers may opt for the more difficult 7-day ascent along the Lemosho route. No technical climbing is required, but a good level of fitness is recommended.
