It is the time of the year when wildebeest herds begin moving faster in search of water and greener grass, making their way across the Grumeti and Mara River. Because of its remote location the route offers trekkers a relatively unspoilt wilderness experience where it is possible to see large wildlife like antelope, elephant and buffalo. The North-East side of the mountain gets significantly less moisture than the southern slopes which means that trekkers are less likely to encounter rain. Trekkers are also more likely to get clear, unclouded views of the mountain. The Rongai Route is flatter than the other Kilimanjaro routes but because of its profile it does not offer trekkers good options to climb high and sleep low. It can be hiked on a six, seven or even eight day. The seven or eight day Rongai routes are highly recommended as trekkers have extra days to acclimatise.

Tarangire National Park is popular for having the largest number of elephants per square foot as well as baobab trees. With its beautiful scenery  proximity this park is usually assigned with the northern circuit itinerary along with other national parks like Lake Manyara, Ngorongoro and Serengeti. The elephants fill this park like cattle while the lions roam the grassland plains looking for their prey. Due to water scarcity most animals in the summer would be found along the riverbed digging for water. It is close to Arusha town making ideal for a day visit.

6 Days Machame Route Compared with other Route like Marangu, the days on Machame are longer and the walks are steeper. The Machame route is considered a difficult route, and is better suited for more adventurous folks and those with some hiking or backpacking experience. The route begins from the south, then heads east, traversing underneath Kilimanjaro southern ice field before summiting. Although is started days on trekking is recommended by company Machame route is scenically beautiful and varied.

The Marangu Route also known as the “Coca-Cola Route” is the oldest and most well established trekking route on Mount Kilimanjaro, and it remains extremely popular mainly because it is the only route on the mountain that has hut accommodation for trekkers.

The Lemosho Route is a remote, less commonly used and beautiful way up the mountain. Because of its length, it gives best opportunity for acclimatization. Lemosho starts at Londorossi Gate, below the Shira Plateau, and treks through the rain forest of West Kilimanjaro to Shira 1 Camp. This route traverses the vast Shira Plateau, awarding scenic views. This plateau was actually formed where the first of Kilimanjaro's volcanoes erupted, and was later filled in from the larger Kibo eruption. On day four of this trek, climbers meet up with the Machame Route around the Lava Tower. From there, hike down into the Barranco Valley, ascend the Great Barranco Wall, and traverse underneath Kilimanjaro's Southern Ice field. Upon arrival to Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be met and transferred for overnight stay at your hotel. Your head guide will meet you for your briefing, gear check and make an arrangement for you to hire any equipment you may need.

Marangu Route offers a slow, steady climb to each of the daily camps, which has given it the reputation for being the easiest trekking route on Kilimanjaro. Don't underestimate this trail however, as the approach to the final camp can be physically demanding with roughly 1000 meters of vertical gain on that day alone.

The vast herd crosses the Grummet River in June and July and the Mara River between Mid-July to November, and it is at this time that some of the most spectacular photographs and video footage can be captured. Marangu Route is one of the oldest and most preferred routes on Kilimanjaro. It is the easiest path on the mountain due to its gradual slope and direct path. It is the only route on Kilimanjaro as it has hut accommodations for the hikers making it popular among the tourists. Marangu Route is therefore also known as “tourist route". Marangu Route has three hut accommodations: Mandara Huts, Kibo Huts, and Horombo Hut. These hut accommodations provide bunk beds. There are 60 bunks beds each at Mandara huts, Kibo huts, however, there are 120 bunk beds at Horombo Hut.

The Marangu route, also known as the "Coca-Cola" route, is the oldest, most well established route on Kilimanjaro. This is the only route which offers sleeping huts in dormitory style accommodations in lieu of camping. There are 60 bunk beds each at Mandara and Kibo Huts, and 120 bunk beds at Horombo Hut. Guests are supplied with mattresses and pillows, but sleeping bags are still required. The huts have communal dining halls and basic washrooms, ranging from flushing toilets and running water at the lower huts to long drop toilets and buckets of water at Hut. Many favor Marangu because it is the easiest path on the mountain, given its gradual slope and direct path. However the short time frame of the route makes altitude acclimatization fairly difficult. The route approaches Mount Kilimanjaro from the southeast. Marangu is unfortunately less scenic than the other routes because the ascent and descent are along the same path. It is also the most crowded route

On this day trip, you will hike on the Marangu Route up to Mandara Hut for lunch. You will NOT reach the summit. All short treks are offered on a private basis, and you can start on any day of the year. The short treks are geared for people who like to hike but reaching the summit isn’t a “must do”, and allow one to experience the excitement of hiking on the highest peak on the African continent. All trekking inside of the Tanzania National Park require the services of a certified Kilimanjaro guide, and the Marangu route is the only route where short treks are allowed.
