Wildebeest migration is most popular natural phenomena that people cannot wait to experience it. The migration starts from Ngorongoro Conservation Area (NCA) to Serengeti to Maasai Mara Kenya then back Ngoro ngoro Crater (NCA). Known as the “Whiskey” route, the Machame route is now the most popular route on the mountain. Compared with Marangu, the days on Machame are longer and the walks are steeper. The Machame route is considered a difficult route, and is better suited for more adventurous folks and those with some hiking or backpacking experience. The route begins from the south, then heads east, traversing underneath Kilimanjaro’s southern ice field before summiting. The minimum number of days required for this route is six days, although seven days is recommended. The Machame route is scenically beautiful and varied. The Rongai Route is the only Kilimanjaro Climbing Route approaching from the northern side of the mountain, just near the Kenyan border. If you’re looking for seclusion this route is perfect for you. As this Kilimanjaro Route sees very less traffic due to its remote location. To add to that, the Rongai Route offers fantastic views of Mt. Kilimanjaro and overlooking the equally stunning Kenyan plains. Due to its remote location, it is less frequently climbed. The Rongai route is considered to be one of the easier Kilimanjaro Climbing Routes. If you have less backpacking and lesser hiking experience then don’t worry, this route is perfect for you.

7 Days Machame Route Kilimanjaro Climbing is one of the most popular trekking routes on Mount Kilimanjaro, offering a scenic and challenging ascent to the summit. Known as the “Whiskey Route,” it provides a more gradual climb compared to others, allowing climbers to adjust to the altitude. This route is famous for its diverse ecosystems, ranging from lush rainforests to alpine deserts, providing an unforgettable experience. Climbers will enjoy stunning views of the mountain’s slopes and glaciers while passing through various altitudes and terrain. The route is ideal for those seeking a rewarding adventure with a higher chance of summit success due to its gradual acclimatization profile.

Machame route begins from the south-western side of the mountain; the trail passes through some of the mountains finest features, including the cloud forest of Kilimanjaro’s southern plains, the dry and dusty Shira Plateau and the delightful groundsel-clad Barranco campsite. Furthermore, you have a choice of ascent routes to the summit, with the thrill-seekers opting for the daunting Western Breach route to the summit, while majority head for the lengthy, long winded climb up the Barafu trail, with the Rebmann glacier edging into your field of vision on your left as dawn breaks behind Mawenzi on your right. Furthermore, unlike Marangu route, on Machame route you don’t use the same path to descend as you took to climb up the mountain but instead you come down via the Mweka route, a steep but very pretty descent encompassing inhospitably dry mountain desert and lush lowland forest in a matter of a few hours.

The Marangu route, also known as the "Coca-Cola" route, is the oldest, most well established route on Kilimanjaro. This is the only route which offers sleeping huts in dormitory style accommodations in lieu of camping. There are 60 bunk beds each at Mandara and Kibo Huts, and 120 bunk beds at Horombo Hut. Guests are supplied with mattresses and pillows, but sleeping bags are still required. The huts have communal dining halls and basic washrooms, ranging from flushing toilets and running water at the lower huts to long drop toilets and buckets of water at Hut. Many favor Marangu because it is the easiest path on the mountain, given its gradual slope and direct path. However the short time frame of the route makes altitude acclimatization fairly difficult. The route approaches Mount Kilimanjaro from the southeast. Marangu is unfortunately less scenic than the other routes because the ascent and descent are along the same path. It is also the most crowded route

Also known as “The Whiskey Route,” Machame is one of the more scenic routes on the mountain. It is a popular route among climbers due to its high summit success rate. Allowing you to “climb high, sleep low”, this route gives your body enough time to adjust to the changes in altitude over several days. Machame offers only tented accommodation and begins at the Machame Gate at the southern base of the mountain, with the approach to the summit made from the east. You will also descend the mountain via a different route, finishing your climb at Mweka Gate. Climbs can take six or seven days; however, we would always advise choosing the longer route for the best chance of acclimatization and reaching the summit.
