Want to see what's underneath all the lava in Iceland? Then join us and explore the hidden world of the lava fields at The End of the Road, Leidarendi Cave. Leidarendi is a pitch black, 900 meter long circular lava tube, showcasing lava formations such as stalactites and stalagmites, along with surprising colors. A lava tube is created after a volcanic eruption when the lava has hardened on the surface, but magma still flows underneath. When the flow of lava ceases and the rocks cool down, a long hollow cave is formed - this natural wonder is called a lava tube. Leidarendi is less visited than other lava tubes is because of its structure inside. It is not a cave that has proper wooden planks for walking on therefore good sturdy hiking boots are recommended. It has some optional areas where you can crawl through allowing for a more adventurous visit but there are other areas that are accessible for and easier journey and yet end up at the same place, making it a loose figure of 8.

This private tour explores the best of West Iceland. The Snæfellsnes peninsula has some of Iceland’s best sights, with the beauty and mystique inspiring world famous novels, enchanting visitors every day. This is a one day trip that you will not forget. We start the day departing from Reykjavik on the ring road heading north. As we get closer to Snæfellsnes, we will start to notice a change in the scenery, with everything becoming more dramatic. We will start to pass through enormous lava fields, mountains that seem to rise from the ocean, charming fishing villages and endless bays and beaches. Mt. Helgafell or Holy Mountain as it is called in English is one of Reykjavik´s signature mountains and is popular amongst its inhabitants. We pick you up at your hotel and drive to Kaldársel. We park the car and start our hike to the top which will take less than 2 hours. The view is absolutely amazing and you can sign the guestbook located at the very top. You will be able to see over the Reykjanes peninsula and its many volcanoes, lava fields and the capital area. The hike is suitable both for beginners and experienced hikers We hope you will leave with the feeling of stillness and being one with nature. Your guide drives you back to the pick up spot.
