These battles attracted world attention and people come from far and wide accross the world to be in the presence of the space where these two battles were fought on 22 January 1879. The Zulu force was victorious in the first battle, Battle of Isandlwana while the British force won the Rorke's Drift Battle. This is the home of the eland, the largest antelope in Africa, duikers, baboons and the rare bearded vulture.
