Nizwa is the largest city in the Ad Dakhiliyah Region in Oman and was the capital of Oman proper. Nizwa is about 140 km (1.5 hours) from Muscat. The population is estimated at around 700,000 people including the two areas of Burkat Al Mooz and Al Jabel Al Akhdar. Nizwa is one of the oldest cities in Oman and it was once a center of trade, religion, education and art. Its Jama (grand mosque) was formerly a center for Islamic learning. Jebel Shams is a mountain located in northeastern Oman north of Al Hamra town. It is the highest mountain of the Hajar range and the country, and the third highest in Arabian Peninsula.The mountain is a popular sightseeing area located 240 km (150 mi) from Muscat. In the summer, temperature is around 20 °C (68 °F) and in the winter it drops to less than 0 °C (32 °F). Nearby is Jabal Akhdar, another prominent peak in the region.. This is one of the classic tours from Muscat. We drive towards Quriyat and then along the coast towards Sur. Our first top is Wadi Shab. This is a beautiful Wadi that was affected by a cyclone called Gonu in 2007. It is an hour’s walk to the swimming Pools. The highlight of this trip is to swim and climb over the rocks and to swim through the keyhole. Inside the cave, you can find a waterfall where the whole cave sparkles with sunlight. Our next stop is Bimmah sinkhole, here you can sit with your feet in the water and watch the little fishes swim through your toes. We have time to swim and jump off the rocks on the other side.
