This trail travels alongside Lake Dunstan on the opposite side of the lake to the road that travels between Cromwell and Clyde. The engineering involved to create this trail is stunning with clip-ons attached to the rockface in places, the Hugo Suspension Bridge plus a very good trail surface throughout the ride. The views and scenery on this ride are fantastic and you can fully understand the history of the area - from the goldrush to the building of NZ's largest dam - by reading the information boards along the way.

From Queenstown our first stop is the Bob’s Cove Nature Walk, a short distance from Queenstown with diverse native vegetation on the lakeshore zone, bustling with native bird life with the Remarkables mountain backdrop. We continue our drive on one of the most beautiful road journeys to the western end of Lake Wakatipu, where the stunning backdrop of Mt Aspiring National park surrounded by snow capped mountains lies before you to explore. The Lake Dunstan Cycleway is the most exciting thing to be added to the New Zealand Cycling landscape in a long time. This ride is an extension of the hugely popular Otago Rail Trail. The Central Otago region is a beautiful place to visit on its own, but this new ride adds another element to your sightseeing and adventure activity. This ride is not recommended for beginners or for riders that are not competent or confident on a bike. There are challenging sections and caution and common sense is required to really enjoy this fun day out.
