Calligraphy and Matcha Tea Ceremony

The activity is located in a quiet residential district just 4 minutes away by train from Shibuya Station in Tokyo. The house you'll enter has a dry garden and traditional interior, exuding the perfect ambience for tea ceremony and calligraphy experiences. At the start of the workshop you will don a jinbei (traditional light clothing) and will first practice grinding solid ink and basic brush strokes. When you're confident enough to write the Japanese kanji character of your choice, you will choose between applying calligraphy art on a kakejiku hanging scroll or a wooden plate in the shape of a votive tablet or a mini paddle for Japanese hanetsuki (a type of badminton game). Take the piece of art with you as a memory from the calligraphy workshop. The activity will continue with a tea ceremony in which the instructor will prepare matcha green tea in front of you using traditional tea utensils. You will learn the etiquette of drinking tea and will enjoy seasonal wagashi sweets.

Discover Tokyo's Artistic Side on Private Tour

Our mission is to provide a "more meaningful authentic experience" to through our "The REAL Local Tokyo for people who do not want AVERAGE" tour. Our tours are different from others since: 1. We try our very best to pick spots that are not overly crowded with tourists so that participants can enjoy "quality time in a quality space" instead of quantity time in an overly packed space. *a minimum of 2 people are required for this tour. *an hour of lunch time is incorporated within the tour hours. Lunch fee is not included in this package. *The meeting time is 10:30am.

We can serve enough food for you, so there is no problem if you are hungry. You can also drink as many non-alcoholic beverages as you like. There are preparations and processes for eating hot pot dishes, I will help you when you eat.
